The Holiday Checklist for your Website

Reading time: 3 minutes

Summer is just around the corner, and you’re probably already looking forward to that well-deserved vacation! But as an entrepreneur, there’s often a little voice in your head: ” What actually happens to my website/webshop while I’m relaxing on the beach? “

Research into consumer behavior shows that customers are quite willing to wait, provided the communication is clear beforehand. After all, transparency builds trust!

With this holiday checklist, you ensure that everything is well organized before you leave.

1. Manage your customers’ expectations

Ignorance is the biggest conversion killer! Therefore, you need to be transparent with your website visitors:

  • The Top Bar : In the Webador editor, you can easily place a top bar at the top of your website.
A short message on your website can prevent many questions. Let visitors know that you are on vacation and what this means for orders or inquiries.
  • Update your contact page: Mention on this page that response times are longer than usual. Optionally, you can create an FAQ page and direct visitors there so they can find the most frequently asked questions themselves!

2. Enable an automatic email response

An automatic out-of-office message is a simple way to manage expectations. As soon as someone sends you an email, they immediately receive a reply stating that you are on vacation and when you can respond again.

This way, customers feel heard, even if you cannot answer immediately.

Here is how to set up an out-of-office message for:
  1. Your Webmail
  2. Outlook
  3. Gmail

3. Check your webshop stock

Do you have a webshop? Then there are two options possible as soon as you go on vacation:

  • Option A : You keep your webshop open but communicate everywhere that delivery times are longer than usual. Don’t forget to mention when you will be back and when you can ship the order!
  • Option B : You temporarily disable the shopping cart in the settings. Customers will then not be able to order anything from your webshop, as it will be (temporarily) offline.

4. Plan your content in advance

Even when you are on vacation, your online visibility doesn’t have to come to a complete standstill. By scheduling some content for your socials in advance, your company remains visible without you having to work on it daily. According to marketing experts, consistency is more important than quantity.

In the week before your departure, it is best to work with content batching.
This means writing all your social media posts for your vacation period in a single afternoon.

There are various channels you can use to schedule your content:

5. The Webador App

The urge to quickly check if an order has come in or if an email has arrived often remains present among starting entrepreneurs. That is where the Webador mobile app comes in handy! Ideal for small, urgent matters that cannot wait until you are at home.

Although the app is super handy, there is also a danger lurking: the temptation to peek too often. That is why we would like to give you a tip: set a check time with yourself. For example, 10 minutes in the morning, or that you are only allowed to check on Sundays. Above all, keep in mind that you are on vacation to relax!

Go on vacation well prepared

Taking a break from your business is not only nice, but also important. With a few small preparations, you ensure that your website continues to work while you enjoy your vacation.

So just go through this checklist before you leave. That way, you can relax and come back full of new ideas.
